Perfume Review: I Loewe You for Women by Loewe

I Loewe You for women by the Spanish luxury brand Loewe was launched in 2007 as a romantic fragrance (as the name clearly suggests), with a target of young women in mind (it was indeed advertised as “the youngest perfume by Loewe”). The bottle has a cylindrical shape, with a transparent pink glass, with the Lowe logo on the front.

The opening is quite feminine, although with a standard structure. There are fruity and mild floral notes, namely roses with traces of peonies (which, right from the start, give a very classic touch, reminding of Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps for women). On a secondary level, there are red berries, with also a soft bergamot. In the middle phase, after about 30 minutes, the aroma keeps the same structure, but with a higher level of sophistication of the roses and peonies, thanks to the apparition of a spicy layer at first, and a concentrated vanilla after one hour. The spices in the background are cumin and other kitchen herbs, although it is not clear if they come from an evolution of the florals, or are extra aggregated spices. After about five hours, the fragrance is less intense: vanilla disappears and is replaced by a soft resin, which blends with the florals, especially roses and jasmine on a base of water. There is also a note of musk and a slightly bitter tone, which also comes from the florals. In the final phase, the fragrance is still floral and spicy, but it is less definite, with no particular notes standing out, except for roses and a small trace of musk.

The perfume has a soft aromatic character, suitable for a daily use in any time of the year, with a flexibility that ranges from semi-informal to informal. In the office it may feel a little too standard at times, but overall it has a clean and correct style, whose purpose is to smell pleasant, as opposed to drawing attention. For a night use, it is probably too soft, and it may disappear in crowded places, with lots of perfumes, odours, and transpiration. The best it could get for an after-work situation would be in a quite place with small circles of friends. On the romantic side, roses will be feminine, but it will lack a seductive structure of notes, remaining a fragrance for a personal, rather then social use. Ideally, for women between 25 and 60 years of age
