Model airplanes have been an interest of many from all walks of life for many generations. In fact, it is a hobby that is usually passed down from generation to generation usually between the men in a family. There is such a variety of model airplanes that it is tough to choose and some people don’t. They go into the whole spectrum from gas to electric to remote control model airplanes.
For the most part, model airplanes are meant to be built out of either fiberglass, plastic, wood, or, metal and kept on a stand or in a glass case for show or for collecting, buying and selling. Can model airplanes be sold for a lot of money? Yes, they can, either because they have antique status or, they have classic status meaning they are a certain model airplane replica of a real airplane model. This can bring in hundreds or thousands of dollars.
Model airplane collecting can also be a very expensive hobby depending on the status; classic, antique, flyable or static. Model airplane collecting has a rich history both here and abroad beginning in the early 1900’s after the first airplane soon came the advent of the model airplanes. Remote control technology was around long before you may think when a man named Nikola Tesla invented the remote control boat with transmitted radio waves. It wasn’t until 1917 that the first radio controlled model airplane was invented.
In 1921 newspapers dedicated to the model airplane were born and in 1931 the first radio controlled contest where the contestants who were anyone under the age of 21 could build an auto – giro which was like a helicopter which was the first kind of model airplane. In the 1950’s more and more types were made by leading manufacturers and the only issue was that they needed to be recharged too frequently. One of the most well known manufacturers are Hasegawa model planes.
But then by the 1970’s a vast improvement in the way of directional technology which made the fun easier and more exciting was born and an explosion of interest in model airplanes began. But the 1920’s and 1930’s was really the golden age of model airplanes. Around 1907 the first model airplanes were constructed out of bamboo, pine and even tissue paper if you can believe it.
Now, here is some real ancient history going back to ancient China. This can almost go back to papyrus paper because the first models of any flying apparatus fashioned after birds. In France there was the inventing of the first balloons that carry people were made of cloth lines with paper. Before plastics dominated the market, in an era when toys were not a priority, they made a lot of paper toys and some of the most popular were post war peppier machete airplanes.
Soon paper airplanes were being offered through boxes of cereal. This is an offer for around 5 cents and sending in two box tops of a popular cereal and in a few days new model airplanes.
