I believe that the purpose of life is to learn and grow. To better our understand of ourselves and the things around us. Sometimes during that learning phase we face things that we don’t know how to process, and occassionally they can lead to depression. For those facing it here are some ways to help you overcome depression.
Support group
Having a friend, co’worker, teacher, family member or another trusted individual to help you cope with the challenges you face can be vital to your recovery. When looking for someone make sure that they are sensitive to the topic, and empathetic to your needs. Don’t feel entitled however to them giving into your every demand though, thats not fair to them. Part of getting over depression is being able to lean on yourself and not others.
Talk through it
If you don’t know how to overcome your depression it is very difficult to figure out a path out. Having a therapist to help discuss this path with you is essential to discovering whats truly bothering you and causing the depression.
Get healthy
I recall when I was depressed I didn’t eat as often as normal, nor did I eat the best foods. Dedicating yourself to planning meals for the day or week is a good start to helping you change things up and break the cycle of depression. In addition avoiding fast foods high in fat, or simple white flour carbs will help you avoid anxiety.
The other part of getting healthy is working out, which leads to more energy, discipline and better self esteem. Even if you stop for a week or two, or more, you have worked out more than you did previously. In effect you are better off than you used to be and are moving in the right direction.
Do your part
This is probably the hardest part of it all. Being able to accept your life the way it is and taking it upon yourself to take the steps you believe are best to move forward. Now this doesn’t mean you have to do things on your own, you can get help as mentioned before. From that help you can get advice, insight, and additional perspective on the trials at hand.
The other part here is doing self improvement. Taking full responsiblity, knowing that you had a hand in making things as they are, and because of that you can make them better. Find some good self help books and learn how to make the transition from depression to living life again.
While you may not see yourself as worthy of a great life I assure you that you are. You can change your life if you give it a solid effort and stop running from the real cause. Self esteem boosters for women work just as well for men, and children, take this advice and do something with it today!
