There is no shortage of articles online about why being a freelance writer is great. But the problem is that another side of the story is not being told! What about the drawbacks to being a freelance writer? What about the other options out there for people who just don’t want the freelance lifestyle? While I have written dozens of articles in the past about the benefits of becoming a freelance writer this one is going to be all about three major reasons why maybe you should not become an online writer.
Reason Number One: You are a tool who can’t work without being told what to do. If you find yourself in this category is a very good reason not to become a writer. Instead of enjoying the independence of schedule you just be a nervous wreck, never knowing which hours you were supposed to work and which ones you could take off and enjoy. Without someone to boss you around all the time how are you supposed to know what to do? Can employers really expect you to figure it out on your own? Why spend time worrying about finding freelance writing assignments when you can just be told what to do? If you’ve taken dozens of middle management leadership seminars and you know how important it is to have a supervisor to tell you what to do. There are no supervisors in freelance writing is a good reason not to become one.
Reason Number Two: You like getting your soul crushed. Freelance writing is many things but it is not a soul crushing job. Maybe it’s not the chatting with coworkers or the office politics you miss, but maybe you secretly like getting your soul crushed and you miss having that massive pressure from the office and unreasonable corporate demands just weighing down on the very being of who you are. So she easier to dream about being a writer than actually being one, so why not just go back to the office and see if it’s the soul crushing job that you really been missing?
Reason Number Three: Who wants to be independently wealthy anyway? Would you really be happier just because you had passive income and didn’t have to worry about having enough to pay bills anymore? Would you really be happier being in charge of your own finances instead of serving at the whim of a corporate cost cutter? Like you want to travel on the beach? You’re just going to get sand in your shoes and you might even get a tan or something. And you miss paying for all that gas money to get work? And why be delicious meals at home when you can get some tasteless fast food? Obviously for these reasons being a freelance writer might not be for you.
All joking aside, if you’re a tool, love having your soul crushed, don’t want to be independent or wealthy, then you should probably ignore becoming a writer. Don’t worry if you want these categories, there are plenty of jobs left them fulfill all these needs and not everyone is meant to be a writer.
